Stromberg-Carlson

Stromberg-Carlson, once a prominent telecommunications equipment and electronics manufacturer in the United States, experienced significant shifts in ownership and operations during the late 20th century. By 1980, amidst changes within General Dynamics, Stromberg-Carlson underwent restructuring, leading to its division and sale in 1982.

The key-systems segment transitioned to ComDial, while the PBX/DBX division found a new home with United Technologies. Concurrently, the Central Office division was acquired by Plessey of the UK. Later in 1991, Plessey sold the DCO business unit, known as "Stromberg Carlson," to Siemens AG, marking a new chapter for the company.

Under the banner of Siemens Stromberg-Carlson, the company emerged as the third-largest vendor of central office switches in the United States, boasting a substantial installed base of 5 million access lines. Operations thrived, with production of Siemens DCO and EWSD systems taking place at the Lake Mary facility in Florida, following the relocation of EWSD production from New York.

In 2006, the DCO line of Siemens Stromberg-Carlson underwent another transition, this time being acquired by GENBAND, a Texas-based Next Generation Networking company. This transfer marked yet another evolution in the storied history of Stromberg-Carlson, reflecting the dynamic nature of the telecommunications industry.
