TESLA Enters Malaysia Accelerating Sustainability!

Embracing Clean Energy and Electric Mobility for a Greener Future

Published: 7.28.2023

Tesla has officially entered the Malaysian market with the launch of its Model Y SUV. The car is priced starting at RM199,000 (around US$43,700) and will be available in three variants: rear-wheel drive, long range, and performance. Delivery of the Model Y is expected to begin in early 2024.

The Model Y is Tesla's first mass-market SUV and is based on the same platform as the Model 3 sedan. It offers a spacious interior with up to seven seats, a long range of up to 533 kilometers (331 miles), and a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour (155 miles per hour).

Tesla's entry into Malaysia is a significant move for the company, as it is the first time that it has launched a car in Southeast Asia. The company is also planning to open a headquarters in Selangor, Malaysia, this year.

The launch of the Model Y in Malaysia is timely, as the country is seeing a growing demand for electric vehicles. In 2022, the Malaysian government announced plans to phase out the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2040. This has led to a surge in interest in electric vehicles, and Tesla is well-positioned to capitalize on this demand.

The launch of the Model Y in Malaysia is a win for both Tesla and the Malaysian government. Tesla gains a new market for its cars, while the Malaysian government gets to promote its commitment to sustainable transportation. It will be interesting to see how the Model Y performs in Malaysia and whether it helps to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.

The launch of the Model Y in Malaysia is a significant event for the electric vehicle industry in Southeast Asia. It is a sign that Tesla is committed to expanding its presence in the region, and it is likely to help to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Malaysia.
